Oyafestivalen: Röyksopp

Here's what went down Saturday five weeks ago when I went to see Röyksopp at the Oya Festival :)

We get up late coz we don't have any plans the first half of the day. Röyksopp aren't playing till late, and it's pouring outside, so we decide we'll just stay put until just before the gig. It's the last day, so I'm packing my things away.

As we arrive  in Middelalderparken the place is dark and muddy and crowded. We're worried as we see Enga (where Röyksopp are playing) is completely full for Beirut, believing it'll be the Thursday problem all over again. Fortunately though, most of the people there to see Beirut were actually there to watch Beirut! As my brother is talking on the phone I spot an opening and we hurry to the very front just at the side of the stage. What unbelievable luck! The only thing is, we're placed just in front of the speakers x) A friend of my brother's comes up to us and we talk before he leaves and we don't see him again until later. We're not giving up our places and wait in the rain for about an hour. It's worth the wait though, the view from here is fantastic! Röyksopp are fantastic! It gets crazy.

I'm a bit worried about jumping since there's a person standing right beside me who isn't moving at all. I can't help myself though and start jumping and head banging and whatnot. After all, who can stay still to tunes like Eple and Remind Me? Not to mention Happy Up Here and The Girl and the Robot! They ended the set with Poor Leno, a special song to me as it's the first of theirs I remember. After Poor Leno most of them went offstage, but then Svein Berge says “har vi mere tid?” (have we got more time?) and we all scream “jaaaa!!” and he ushers the others back onstage and they play another song! It was a magical evening.

Even though it stopped raining for the gig, our clothes were pretty wet and the weather was pretty cold. We met up with my brother's friend and he showed us to the house where he was staying with another one of my brother's associates. She offered us vodka to warm up. It may have been the first time I tasted vodka, but I can assure you, it won't be the last x)

I'll never forget those three days :)

Apologies

Hey...

Sorry I didn't post the One Month Anniversary of Seeing Röyksopp Live at the Oya Festival Post, but I caught the most horrible cold. I'll post it tomorrow though, so it'll be the One Month Plus One Week Anniversary instead.

Anyway, I've been listening a lot to Jamie T and The Streets lately and I'm feeling increasingly melancholic towards my current situation (i.e. not in England). Err... Whatever.

See ya tomorrow

Oyafestival

Isn't it weird how your box fresh Vans after a days use suddenly looks like they've been trampled on by thousands of frantic Arctic Monkeys fans? Oh, wait....

Today is the one month anniversary of when I got to see Arctic Monkeys live for the first time. I remember it like it was yesterday, it was just that mad. I'd been looking forward to the event since spring when I found out they were coming to the Oya Festival in Oslo. I knew instantly I had to go, after all I'd been waiting for the day for two years! And it was really spectacular, best days of my life :D Well, this and London of course :P

Anyhow, here's what happened day to day:

Day 1 - Thursday 13th
We arrive onsite at noon, though the Arctics aren't playing till 21.40. There's lots happening before that though, so it's not like
there's nothing to do. We go to lots of gigs, Fjorden Baby!, Mungolian Jet Set and Glasvegas to mention a few. But I just can't wait! How much longer?! My heart rate rapid.

The Monkeys are playing just after Glasvegas so we figure we'll just stay there for the hour between them and Arctics. Unfortunately though, that's what pretty much everybody figured. We do our best to get to the front, but it's impossible. There's just no doing! And being only 1.57, I've got no advantages. I get crushed to death, die and go to heaven! Arctic Monkeys enters the stage and things get frantic.

After a song or two we decide to try and get farther out and manage to get a good spot a bit out at the side, still keeping a pretty good view of the stage. As they dive into I Bet You Look Good I'm jumping like I've never jumped before, and everybody is jumping alongside me! Truly an awe inspiring experience.

After the gig's over, somebody comes over and asks me if I'm a fan. "Why, YES!" Turns out they want to interview me! Crazy! I'm more than happy to be of assistance.

It's been a great day but it's time to go and we start making our way home. The city is alive with music lovers all heading for the tube. It's strangely beautiful.

Day 2 - Friday 14th
Today is shopping day and I've got my shopping list ready. Before we leave, I check out www.aktivioslo.com which is where I was told I'd find my interview. I'm made Fan of the Day! Pretty rad if I gotta say so myself x)

Shopping is something I would normally find quite stressing, but today I'm shopping records and books, so I'm in my right element. We go through a lot of different book stores and I manage to track down 1984, Tank Girl One, Glue and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. After that it's straight to the record shop, the highlight of the day. I find more stuff than I'd hoped for, buying in the end for about a hundred quid. The last time I used that much money at once I think must have been in HMV in London last year. I guess there's something about record shops that just makes me go crazy.

This is what I bought:

Parklife, Blur

Modern Life is Rubbish, Blur

A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay

Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols, Sex Pistols

A record by Nina Hagen I can't remember what was called since I only bought it as a present for my brother

This is England

Trainspotting

Quadrophenia

Bananaz

Braveheart (got this for free, being a "grand shopper" x))

I also bought PiL's Album in a small independent record shop called Tiger. Bit of an impulse buy really, but it was an LP, and I love LP's! ^^

When we get back, we watch Bananaz, which was... really sumfink to put it that way x) I loved it :)

Day 3 - Saturday 15th
The rain keeps pouring and we decide to stay at home till Röyksopp begins, which is a bit sad, because I was really up for watching the Big Pink. We get there a little bit before Röyksopp (they're playing 21.40) and realise as the place is already full for Beirut (who are playing the same stage) that we've done the same mistake as we did with the Monkeys. It's still raining, but the arrangers have put out covers which are working pretty well. They don't let the mud through, but they can't hold the water, so my All Stars with their air holes get filled up pretty fast. After walking about a bit we find ourselves a place a far bit from the stage. But then something fantastic happens: I spot an opening straight to the front of the stage! We make our way immediately.

Sorry, I've caught a cold and can't go on. I'll resume on Saturday, which is only right I suppose, as that's the rightful day of the Röyksopp anniversary :P

Bai for now then, see you Saturday ^^

Playlist Update

Keeping it simple with only one track =P I don't suppose you'll spend more than six minutes on my blog anyways so x)

I fell head over heels in love with Brian Eno's ambient music.
You'll find loads more in Spotify =) I recommend Apollo (Atmospheres and Soundtracks) and Ambient 4: On Land =P 1/1 is from Ambient 1: Music for Airports.

Enjoy =)

Some minor changes

Dontberubbish has experienced some minor changes :) For instance, there's a new widget, the Arctic Monkeys widget (which doesn't fit any better than the Blur one) and I've got myself a new profile picture! I'm also about to update my playlist again :) You'll be surprised, I can promise you that :P

Also, next week is the one month anniversary of when I went to the Oya Festival, so be prepared for that.

I know I haven't been all that faithful to my blog and all, but hey, I'm not dead so don't assume I am.

Kthxbai, I'll see you later, you elevator alligator ^^

OMG MANGA!

I've been absoluetely crazy about this manga lately, called Axis Powers Hetalia. I think I've read just about every scanlation available out there! Well, most anyways x)

Hetalia is a manga and anime series in which countries are represented by anthropomorphic characters. There's a lot of play on stereotypes, but if you're like me you'll just find it delightfully offensive >.< You should check it out :D

Axis Powers Hetalia is a product of Hidekaz Himaruya's imagination

EDIT: I removed the picture because I was worried about copyright. Sorry.

Update: Playlist

I finally updated my playlist, but I gotta tell you, it was a pretty tough job. In the beginning I had playlists over 30 songs long! In the end though, I went with four instrumentals I'm sort of crazy about right now. They're not really representative of my music taste, but I do absolutely love these tracks, and I hope you will too :)

1. Black Eye/Burnt Thumb - Metronomy
2. Wildcat - Ratatat
3. Shempi - Ratatat
4. The End of You Too - Metronomy

(You'll find it in the sidebar)

Sounds Fishy to Me

For some reason I just find the idea of baking a fish into a loaf of bread really funny x)
Kalakukko: traditional food from the Finnish region of Savonia made from fish baked inside a loaf of bread.

And, incidentally:
Kala is Finnish for "fish" and kukko is Finnish for "rooster", leading to the oft used but non-morphological translation, "fish cock".

If only expanding one's horizon was always as fun x)

On the Cover

My brother offered to buy me one of those fancy foreign magazines the other day and told me there were three alternatives: Photoshop, Photoshop Advanced and Mojo with Blur on the cover. Tough choice? Not really. I told him to get the Mojo one, obviously.

Also, Blur are on the cover on NME this week :D Yeeeeey :D:D:D If this is a dream, don't you dare pinch my arm!

Edit: I just recieved this weeks issue of NME in the mail today, and I'm going to read the article on Blur RIGHT NOW!

Edit: I know the picture here is wrong, it changed without me knowing. I'll fix it later, now I'm tired.

Don't Be Rubbish Update

As you can see, I've added the new Blur : Midlife widget to my blog :D It's a bit broader than I'd hoped for, but I wasn't able to interpret the html codes so I could fix it. It's not that big a problem though, is it? Anyhow, as you know, Blur is one of my favourite bands, and I'm chuffed to bits they're back together :D I hope you'll enjoy the widget as much as I have :)

About the playlist, I'm thinking of updating it soon, but I'm pretty busy with loads of different projects at the moment, making blogging a minor priority. I've got a lot of stuff on my hands, including the making of new prints for my t-shirt shop My Crying Balloon. I'll post one here now and we'll come back to it, aight? Alreyt, baibai for now then :)

Sketches!

So I did say I had a little bit of a productive period a little while ago, only I didn't say any of it was any good, so please bear with me.

I will only be able to post a few today and they're all oddly coloured, but I'm on my mac and all the files are on my PC and though my PC is right behind me and all I have to do is turn around, I'll just settle for these oddly coloured ones today.

I'm sure you won't mind, seeing as none of you is actually reading my blog anyway.

It's been such a long time since I've posted any of my work online, I'm almost scared something awful's gonna happen if I do. Oh well.

Mood: I guess "My back is effing hurting like effing hell" isn't a mood or what?
Listening to: The End of You Too, Metronomy
Reading: How to be a better marketer

When the Girlfriend's Away Always Feed the Cat

I love Jamie Hewlett and his art has been a great source of inspiration to me. I was thinking about buying som Tank Girl Books via Amazon, but the delivery is often double the prize of the actual product, which is a bit annoying. Then again, yesterday I found The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in a bookstore, and it seems to me the prize must have been lost in translation, coz the back of the book said £6 but when I checked the bookstore prize it was double that! But, it's not like £12 is a lot for a great book like The Hitchhiker's Guide (and it's certainly worth it just for the pictures of Martin Freeman o.ô) it's just sort of off-putting when you know the rest of the world only pays half of what you do for the same damned book.

Anyhow, I really wanted to get Get the Freebies, but apparantely the only available edition is in Spanish, which is a bit of a letdown since I know f*ck all when it comes to Spanish. I might try translating it myself using translate.google.com, but I tried that once with a Sky Doll book in french, and it's a real pain in the arse. The artwork is still effing brilliant though.

My computer's up an running again and that means I'll soon be posting some of the sketches I've been talking about. That's the reason this post is about Mr. Hewlett really, coz most of the sketches are heavily influenced by his style. Hopefully he won't sue.

Anyhow, for now, enjoy this link to Cocker's Luck by Hewlett and Hardy:

Welcome Back from the Land of the Dead

I really don't know what that last post was about (furry fish and universal hate?). No, I just thought I'd let you all know that as soon as I get my computer fixed you can expect a flurry of posts as I've got loads of sketches just waiting to get out there. I'm really rather excited about it :)

So, I've been gone quite a while now, mostly because I haven't been up to much. I've read a few books though, some really good ones. Both my mother and father love books and I practically live in a library. Just in my room there's four bookshelves and a cupboard crammed full of books! The cupboard is all my stuff (expect for some old boardgames) and is dominated by my NME collection and some very big (and heavy!) art books.

My current reading frenzy started abouth a month or two ago and so far I've read Strange Case of Dr Jekkyl and Mr Hyde, Animal Farm, Trainspotting, Brave New World and now also One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest which I finished yesterday. I was thinking of maybe taking a break from reading and letting the last book sink in a little, but I've got so many books waiting I just don't know how to make time for them all! I think perhaps the best would be to wait till the summer holidays when things have settled down a bit though. It's really rather ironic to think that the reading man's biggest enemy is school.

Here's another drawring I made when my computer still worked:

Mood: Just a little bit of everything, or maybe nothing at all
Listening to: Badhead Demo, Blur
Reading: The Law of the Office: The A-Z of 9-5 Culture
Watching: The sketches I've drawn
Eating: Oh crud, I forgot to eat again
Drinking: Water

That's all for now. Baibai :)

Welcome Back to the Land of the Living

I trust you haven't noticed this blog has been dead for five months, and will proceed to carry on as if nothing has happened.

Though most my days are bad, today has proved to be particularly so. The last couple of weeks I've been up in the sky with a wave of inspiration, but as we all know, waves pass quickly and usually ends up crashing into the mountainside with a violent "ARGH!" followed closely by "AAAIIIIEEEEE" and "the universe hates me". Also, my main computer is down.

And I slept badly.

...there was this furry fish....

Anyhow, I'm not sure you should be expecting much more from me in near future. As my main computer is down, I can't scan any sketches and therefore have nothing to show you. But hey, what would an art blog blog post be without pictures, eh? Here's a monster and a chicken for you.

Mood: Bitter
Listening to: Metronomy
Reading: Not as much reading as looking at drawrings
Watching: Time passing by
Eating: Why would I be eating by my computer?
Drinking: Nothing, I'm dehydrated

See you at Oya :)
(My God - I'm gonna go see Arctic Monkeys!!! :D:D:D)
Update: Mood: When thinking about Oya - Proper chuffed!

Yey for me! I'm seventeen!

My birthday was a blast :D It was absolutely ace; I got loads of presen
ts (more than I'd expected by far) and it was all great stuff :D
2009 is definitely looking better, if anything x) However, I am going to miss the bliss of 2008, as it was, after all, the best year of my life so far. A lot of great things happened in 2008, the highlight undoubtedly being my London-trip, which I can't wait to repeat. I don't suppose though, that that is one the agenda for 2009.

But, it's time to close the book on the past and realise that new chapters are still to be written. So goodbye 2008 and sweet sixteen, the year of self realisation, and hello 2009; year of self awareness. Wish me luck.

I'm just gonna get this "Happy New Year"-thing over with coz I'm too late for it anyway

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! Sorry for not writing sooner, but I've been busy. Well, actually I couldn't be bothered; fell of the blogging bandwagon some time ago, you see. But I'm back now, for now, and it's 2009! Fancy that. New year; new expectations. Actually I hate expectations; you get all psyched up about something, and then it's just rubbish. Rubbish. But hey, don't let me get you down, talk to me again in two days and see if I'm not chuffed to bits then. Turning 17, I am. Yey.

That's it really.
See you again after the 20th (that's my birfday!)
